Huddersfield Netball League - Press Release
The Huddersfield Netball League, founded in the 1960s by a dedicated group of young women eager to play competitive netball more regularly, is marking a significant milestone in its long and proud history. What began with local youth club players seeking sponsorship and court space from Huddersfield businesses has since grown into a thriving community league. Today, the league comprises around 15 clubs, 33 teams and approximately 350 players, reflecting the remarkable passion for netball across the Huddersfield area. After decades of clubs hosting matches at individual home venues, they are preparing for one of its most transformative developments to date. Its official – we have a new venue and home for the Huddersfield Netball League!! After a lot of hard work and support from many people, we are delighted to have been able to partner with KAL and for the first time in our history play all our league matches at one central venue. The Huddersfield Leisure Centre is a fantastic central facility, and with two netball courts side by side we will have hours of netball played on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings throughout the year from January to June and September to December. Matches will be played from 7.00pm – 10.00pm with spectators able to watch from the balcony, and fixtures for both summer and winter seasons are showing on our league tables should you wish to come along and support or find a team to join. Secretaries, please remember to submit completed team sheets via the relevant WhatsApp group within seven days of the match. We also need the result sent to the relevant WhatsApp group or online through the website so that results can be collated and posted to the website league tables. If you have any questions, please email the League Secretary on [email protected] Maureen Kelly Memorial Tournament 2025
Thank you to everyone who turned out to play, umpire, organise and support our popular annual charity tournament in Greenhead Park on Sunday 6th July. Despite the rain we had a great day, with lots of exciting netball and the welcome chance to meet and socialise with our wonderful netball community in Huddersfield. 18 teams took part and after a morning and afternoon session we had two sections running – the Plate and the Trophy. We congratulate all our winners and runners up, and everyone else in between! Thank you also to our dedicated umpires and volunteers, who without, we wouldn’t be able to run this longstanding competition. The Plate Semi-Final was made up of Fountain, Portland Blaze, Pennine Weavers and Hepworth B. Fountain and Pennine Weavers won both their games and progressed to the final. The Plate Final was a closely fought game, with Pennine Weavers ultimately the winner, beating Fountain by one goal. The Trophy Semi Final was made up of Hepworth A, Hi Tech A, Hi Tech B and Portland Flames. Both Hi Tech teams won their games and progressed to the final. Another hard-fought final game ensued, with eventually Hi-Tech A being crowned winners of the Trophy Final. Final scores are below: Plate Semi Finals
Thank you again from your league committee for your continued support and we will see you again next year! Secretaries, please remember to submit completed team sheets via the relevant WhatsApp group within seven days of the match. We also need the result sent to the relevant WhatsApp group or online through the website so that results can be collated and posted to the website league tables.
