Mary Taylor is one of our best known and best loved umpires. She turns 80 on the 5th August, and she has decided now is the time to hang up her umpiring whistle for good and retire. She was 15 when she first started playing netball at a local youth club. At 21 she set up an open age team with friends called FMA. This was 59 years ago, and the creation of this team was instrumental in the establishment of the Huddersfield Netball League. As well as playing, Mary picked up her umpiring whistle, and her career as an umpire began. I am sure you will all join with us in wishing Mary a very happy 80th birthday and a happy, well deserve retirement from our wonderful game! |
