As our members are no doubt aware, the government has recently agreed to accelerate the return of our sport through a modified version of the game.
This approval activates a roadmap for the return of community netball that allows modified training to take place for groups of up to 30 people per court, subject to netball organisations having the required risk mitigations in place. This is an important milestone post lockdown and means netballers can now reunite on court and enjoy the many benefits of netball once again. To support you in getting back onto court click here to access a full Re-start Netball Activity guidance document. We will endeavour to keep you up to date with what is going on in respect of re-starting the Huddersfield League, and please refer to all the guidance and support that is available from England Netball. If anyone needs any assistance navigating through the risk assessment and mitigation processes, or has questions they would like help with, please contact us on [email protected] Following the Government announcement on Saturday 31 October, we are deeply disappointed to confirm that community netball will be suspended until the national lockdown, coming into affect on Thursday 5 November, is lifted. All community netball following the Return to Play roadmap is impacted including club activity, leagues, local pathway activity and all England Netball programmes including Back to Netball and Walking Netball. Activity operating as part of the elite sport framework is however permitted to continue.
The efforts of the Netball Family since the Government signed off our Return to Play plan in August have been inspiring. England Netball are immensely proud of the huge amount of care and attention the Netball Family has taken to ensure that the virus isn’t spreading through netball activity. We sincerely thank the committees and COVID-19 Officers who interpreted the guidance and developed risk mitigation plans, the coaches who’ve carefully planned sessions, the officials who have implemented the modifications, and every single player who has stepped back onto court. The opportunity to play even for a few short months will have meant even more after these difficult times for so many. In these ever changing and uncertain times, one thing that is certain, is that West Yorkshire Netball are here to support all its member Clubs and Teams.
Back in August we announced our support for England Netball’s #Rise Again campaign by providing an optional 25% discount on our County Membership Fees until 31st October 2020, which added to the 30% discount already offered by England Netball until the end of September. We are now delighted to announce further financial support for all West Yorkshire member Clubs and Teams to help with their ‘Return to Play’. Clubs and Teams can apply for a Support Grant of £50.00 per team, providing they meet and are able to evidence, if requested, the following criteria: :: CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION :: Just in case you haven't seen the recent communications from England Netball following the government announcements on Monday. EN released a statement which is below and also a follow up communication.
To sum it up it basically confirms that the rule of six now applies to netball indoors for adults, which means there can only be groups of six indoors, (and that isn't different bubbles of six), but just literally six people on a court indoors. So essentially that means there is no indoor competition at all for those aged 18 or over, which could last six months. I know we are all struggling to identify indoor courts to train anyway, but unfortunately this places more pressure on leagues being able to run, as if it continues, it will mean any leagues will need to be run outdoors. We aren't at a point as you know to resume our league, but just something to be aware of for those teams that are back doing some form of training, that unfortunately this will need to be outdoors if there are more than six of you. It’s not because you don’t care about all of your other teammates, it’s because in that moment, they need you.
West Yorkshire Netball is supporting England Netball’s stand against racism. We need to now, more than ever, support Black members of the Netball Family. England Netball have been contacted by many incredible women who have spoken up about the need for them to be part of the change, and we agree. Over the last few weeks they have asked several of those amazing women to share their experiences and to review what they currently do as an organisation and help them to plan to do more. West Yorkshire Netball now want to hear about the experiences of women within our own county, so we can also plan to do more. EN are listening and West Yorkshire recognises that we need to do too. We want to educate ourselves and our Netball Family and shout louder. As a next vital step, West Yorkshire Netball will be running a ‘Here to Listen’ Forum for the Netball Family in our county. It will allow us to come together and further explore the experiences of Black and Ethnic Minority communities in our sport. It will be a chance to have open and honest discussions and help us stand even stronger against racism. Let’s do more, together.
